Write relentlessly, until you find your voice. Then, use it.

8 things I think are pretty great this week: a memoir narrated by a rock star, the myth of multitasking and a few tips for getting your work life organized.

Tomorrow is my birthday, followed by Mother’s Day on Sunday. It’s a rare year that the two fall on the same weekend (since I’ve been a momma it’s only happened twice), but it’s so fun when they do. Seriously, I get two whole days of feeling like a queen in my own home. There will be chocolate…

Before I head out to celebrate, here are 8 things that I thought were worth sharing this week:

  1. Hollywood Park, a memoir by Mikel Jollett. I decided to download the audiobook for this one because I’m a fan of the author’s music (he’s the lead singer of Airborn Toxic Event) and because he narrates it himself, which I always enjoy in a memoir. It is stunning. Big thumbs up. Add it to your TBR list.

  2. This Apple News article about how multitasking is a myth. I’ve been saying it for years, but apparently if Elon Musk is on board, it’s news. Do ONE thing at a time, I say. And do it well.

  3. Speaking of doing one thing at a time… I wrote a pretty detailed blog post about the organizational system that keeps me on track every week. It’s evolved over the years as I’ve read books like Getting Things Done, and The ONE Thing. May it be of use.

  4. This map of the most “Should I…” question googled by state. California: Should I move out? Louisiana: Should I lose weight? Florida: Should I text him? Fascinating (and to the Florida ladies - no, the answer is no).

  5. A new trend called No Mow May. Apparently, if we let our lawns get a little crazy this month we can support biodiversity in our own back yards.

  6. Nerd Word of the Week: Antepenultimate - Last but two in a series; third last (as in, this is the antepenultimate item in my list)

  7. One of the writers at A Very Important Meeting shared an essay by Anne Patchett on writing called The Getaway Car.

  8. Words of wisdom from David Sedaris: “Write relentlessly, until you find your voice. Then, use it.”

Have a great weekend everyone. And don’t forget to call your mother.
