Stitching and unstitching...

While I toil away on the final edits of my new novel, here's some wisdom from Yeats, thoughts on Buddhism and editing, and a brief history of the haiku.

Stitching and unstitching...

Happy Friday the 13th everyone.

Here are 8 things I thought were worth sharing this week:

  1. These lines from Yeats, which more or less sums up how I’m feeling about writing fiction right now: “A line will take us hours maybe / Yet if it does not seem a moment’s thought / Our stitching and unstitching has been naught.” Brilliant.

  2. This Instagram account: @words_of_women

  3. David Sedaris’s 5 Tips for New Authors (you have to scroll down past his list of accolades to find it). My favorite bit: “Comparison is the thief of joy. Instead, find a way to be you. Perfection is not the goal.”

  4. This past week I learned

    new and interesting facts

    about the haiku

  5. A few thoughts about how the Buddhist concept of Right View can help us edit our writing more effectively.

  6. It’s Mental Health Awareness Month, and whether we’re talking about it or not, a lot of us are struggling. I wrote this post to share how I keep tabs on my own mental health. May it be a conversation starter.

  7. Nerd Word of the Week: Triskaidekaphobia ~ extreme superstition regarding the number thirteen. Today is a bad day for the triskaidekaphobes out there.

  8. Yesterday was National Limerick Day and in celebration, by husband wrote me a Buddhist limerick. You can read it here.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Writes The Dalai Lama's Cat & Other In… May 15

The Yeats quote is so true. A parallel paradox to Blaise Pascall's apology for writing a long letter because he didn't have time to write a shorter one!
