One well-chosen detail

Eight things I thought were worth sharing this week:

  1. It’s officially Pride Month and you don’t have to be queer to celebrate. Check out this list of 40 great LGBTQ+ books (compiled by Book Riot) and stock up for some summer reading.

  2. As I’ve been working through the final edits of my manuscript, I’ve been thinking a lot about The Dreaded Cliché and what Susan Bell calls the “one well-chosen detail.”

  3. Not to name drop or anything, but a friend of mine, Elizabeth Stomp, just published this wonderful article in Lion’s Roar about setting boundaries: “boundary-setting is an act of compassion that takes courage, consistency, and knowing what you want.” Yes!

  4. Ear Candy: Line Without A Hook by Ricky Montgomery. This is a great one for singing along.

  5. Nerd Word of the Week: stochastic ~ randomly determined; having a random probability distribution or pattern that may be analyzed statistically but may not be predicted precisely.

  6. Some advice for when life gets super busy and you feel like you don’t have time to write: lower the bar.

  7. Brené Brown posted on Instagram recently that she and her team were going to take some time off (and good for them!), but you can still get your dose of emotional wisdom (and learn the definition of freudenfreude) by checking out this snippet of her on The Ellen Show.

  8. For any else out there finding themselves unexpectedly emotional at their kids reaching certain milestones (my youngest finished elementary school yesterday and there were tears), you are not alone. It’s hard to let them grow up.

Cheers,

April
