It's an original, in penned replica form...
Upset fans, movies about writers, meditation for anxiety, and more.
Eight great things worth sharing this week:
It’s Black Friday, y’all. I’m not a big fan. I hold out for Small Business Saturday. That’s when I put on my hard pants and head on out to my local bookstore. Join me in book-only shopping this weekend! Because books.
We’re officially in the season now, and by season I mean that time of year when it’s super hard to get any writing done because every time you turn around someone needs something from you. So I’ll just take this opportunity to plug A Very Important Meeting. Sign up, put it on your calendar, and you can skip baking cookies for the school holiday party because you literally have a very important meeting. Your 2023 self will thank you for it.
Simon & Schuster had to return 900 copies of Bob Dylan’s $600 “hand-signed” book The Philosophy of Modern Song after fans started comparing signatures and found that they were all EXACTLY alike. S&S said “the limited edition books do contain Bob’s original signature, but in a penned replica form.” Fans said nu-uh. Not falling for it.
A recent study found that meditation can work just as well as prescription meds in treating anxiety. Pretty exciting news, yes, but the meditators in the study sat for 40 minutes a day and took a weekly 2.5 hour class. Commitment. Still, it’s nice to know we have options. (Also, please don’t stop taking your meds without talking to your doc first.)
Nerd Word of the Week: Jentacular ~ of or pertaining to breakfast, specifically one taken early in the morning or immediately upon getting up. Could be tea. Could be sunshine. Just so long as it’s early the morning.
This Sunday is Turtle Adoption Day. I know what you’re thinking: are there enough turtles in need of adoption to justify this day’s designation? There are if you count symbolic adoptions. I’m not an WWF affiliate or anything, I just really like turtles. And you get a turtle stuffy when you give, which is way more snuggly than a real turtle.
Scrivener Tip: If you’re using the Split Screen function and you keep accidentally clicking away from your work in progress, you can do what’s called “locking your editor.” It’s a game changer if you’re someone who likes to reference your research files a lot while you’re writing.
Just for fun, here’s a list of The Best Movies About Writers. I’ve seen almost all of them and, for my money, Adaptation wins. Hands down.
Happy writing, my friends,
April
